twice exceptional

this is a essay i did for school, it came out pretty good and i am proud of it. tell me what you think

Mark Twain once said “I never let my schooling get in the way of my education”. What if schools were places were children could be truly educated? Schools wrongly assume that if a child simply tries, they can all learn in the same way. The truth is every person is different, and what works for some kids, will never work for others. If Schools cannot adjust their ways, they will doom large groups of people to fail in school. One group that is neglected by the school system are Twice Exceptional children. This is a group of students who are highly intelligent but also have a learning disability. In schools need to create programs were these students can archive to there abilities.

Most people have heard the term ‘failing genius’ and scoffed at the oxymoron it presents. For Twice-Exceptional students though, this cliché applies to their lives. Their are countless stories were a child will be failing every class in school but when tested they have an IQ over 130. (LDonline.org). How can someone be so smart, yet fail there classes. The simple truth is that they are bored. Students who go unchallenged in school can never live up to their potential. Twice-Exceptional programs will allow these ‘failing geniuses’ to excel in school and later in life.
“Failing is the hardest thing in the world because it forces you to look at your self as a failure.”(Anonymous) Failures in schools often send Twice-Exceptional into emotional turmoil. They also begin to adapt anti social behaviors because, they have so little in common with their peers. Feelings of depression and low self-esteem begin to accrue. A program created to fit their needs would give them a place to belong and a group of understanding peers they can relate to.
In addition, Twice-Exceptional children are prone to childhood delinquency due to boredom and depression, caused by the lack of programs for them. Rebellion is common against authority figures, especially teachers, because of the lack of understanding and respect they give to students. Disruption of classes and questioning authority becomes a hard habit to brake, often haunting them for the rest of there life. Creating a positive channel for creativity and energy can stop these acts of disobedience.

There in no logical reason why Twice-Exceptional students do not receive the programs they need other then its expense. Twice-Exceptional students only make up only two to five percent of students in public schools. (Counseling the Gifted and Talented) Though experts believe that number is underestimated, this has not prompted schools to spend the thousands of dollars needed for specialized teachers and psychologists. Society cannot afford to lose another Einstein. Programs need to be instituted for Twice-Exceptional students, regardless of the cost.

Every one deserves to live up to their potential and have the best life possible. Twice-Exceptional programs will allow students to live up to their ability becoming successful members of society. These programs are the only way society can prevent people who think like Leonardo de Vinci from working as a waitress. It is the responsibility of the educational system to teach children in ways they can understand, even if it is unconventional.

eric

eric is a very good friend of mine and today he told me that i should blog about him. so i am. eric is a very cool guy and is my best friend. he is an amazing artist and musician. he is the only person in the world who can take a picture of me and make me look pretty. he also writes music but his last CD flopped because he could not sing. all and all eric is awsome.

the hardest thing to watch

the worst thing in the world is when you see a incredibly smart, gifted person who does not expand there banks of knowlage. people think that just because they have good ideas that everyone will believe them. smart people need to realive that they neeed to support there ideas with evidence or extremly sound logic, that no one could punch wholes in. there is nothing worse when people have ideas about science, with no scientific evidence. education and reading is importent because you can support your ideas, and not sound ignorrent.

drugs

there is a reason people do drugs, which can not be explaned by the words of the user. the reason people do drugs is not only for the pleusere of excaping but it comes from a humans need to be loved. these people were either neglected as a child by either there parents or peer group. when i say neglected i do not always mean phycical abuse, i mean the emotional neglect or misunderstanding of a person. ever human being at some point in there life has gone through this weither they acknolege it or not. the reason that people turn to a life style of drugs is that they have no way of deeling with this neglect and they have this need to fit in somewere. this is the reason people who belong to orginized religiouns tend not do drugs, it is not all because they have a god telling them not to, it is because they have a support system to deel with this hurt. this is also the reason drug users start in there early teens, or even before that. they want a place to belong in the grand skeem of the soical class system that is begining to be astablished. this is also the age were people begin to rebel against there parents, so they can not longer be in a position of emotional support.

the common places were you see obsesive drug us is in children whose parents are part of the working class, were the parents need to work leaving the children alone at a early age or in the upper middle class to elite, were parents become to obsesed with money to have a deep conection to there children. this leads to the neglect of a childes emotion needs, and not in a position to help with emotional trama that is commonly faced at this age.

drugs creat a sociaty, complete with a "family",peeking order, and strict rules. when i refure to a family, i am talking about the close friends that look out for each other, preventing them from being hurt and/or cought. they help with hurt with the only way they know how, being there and masking them with drugs.(this easly turns into a snow balling effect).
there is also a well established peeking order based on honor,loyalty,witt,and a conections(who they know and how easy it is to get"shit"). this can give people a way to rise up in when in the legal world they could never better themselves.
there is one rule that can never be forgotten in the underground never "rat"someone else, even if it means taking the punishement your self. this loyalty and honor has been lost in the modern world. this is the only comendable aspect of the drug culture, and needs to be understude if we want to stop the spread of drugs.

drugs are addictive, not only physically but becuase of the sence of belong to that societly. this sence of belonging why they started and why a individual stays in this culture even if they lose everything because of it. people become addicted to exceptence.
